The Midnight Sun
It's been a frightfully long time since I last updated this site; a few months, it would seem. Well, I never was good at correspondance. In that time, I have to say that not a lot has changed, and at the same time, a few things have happened. I'm still in Norway, and I've now been privy to the midnight sun, which forced me to go and buy another pair of curtains because it's rather hard to sleep at 1am with the sun blazing through your window - it upsets your rhythm something serious.
I'm still doing the Ph.D thang, and unfortunately, despite my efforts, it looks like I may well be submitting just past the four-year mark. It's extremely disappointing for me, because (given usual standards) 4 years is pretty piss poor performance, and it is a little bit demoralising when a perfectly good shortcut doesn't pay off, and you have to take the long way round to get something done. The problem is mostly my fault; poor decisions, too much dicking around, and being far too optimistic with what I was trying to achieve. Shit happens I guess, and you are stuck with the decisions you make. At the very least, I'm on the final leg now in terms of simulations; once this and the analysis is over, that should be it.
Though my day job hasn't changed much, I'm not sitting on my arse doing nothing. Working on a journal and a conference paper, and I'm still writing music. I have managed to hit the big time with respect to the latter, despite my original intent of doing that only after I retire (only 45 years too early) so part of the added stress is doing two things at once. Luckily, with not much else to do out here in Norway, I can afford to do that without as many distractions, so I guess I ought to thank my lucky stars for being here. That said, I still need to figure out how to get all of my crap back home without incurring the same complications that happened on the way out. Ah, life, you bitch. And I'm still going bald too.
-OUT!
